Atalante is a 42-metre-long barge, built by the Meré shipyard to extract of sand from the Loire. It is one of eight barges in the fleet owned by “La Florentaise”, a company that specialises in the extraction of sand from the Loire. This barge once transported sand from the sand pit at St Florent-le-Vieil to the depot on the Saint-Felix canal in Nantes.
